Heather began her love affair with springers in the early 90’s. After her Golden Retriever embarrassed her one to many times in obedience, she “borrowed” her 4-H leader’s springer to compete with. Hailey , Hardy’s Xmas Surprise Package, was a daughter of the infamous Ch Kimet’s Khristopher Robin. She fell in love with the silly ,sweet brown dog, and wanted one to call her own. Her 4-H leaders said that there was only one person to get a springer from, and that was Gary Zayac. She contacted Gary and within the year, she got a liver/white male named Hunter. Hunter achieved a couple of points toward his championship, but turned out to be too small. Peter Shimmin of Greywind Springers was kind enough to offer her Belle, a 3/4 sister to Ch Ridgewyn Legacy. Belle finished her Canadian championship and was bred once. She lived out the rest of her days with Heather’s mom as a companion.
Heather went to work as an assistant for Gary Zayac in 1997. She worked for him for 8 years, learning much about dogs, grooming, handling, and life. During this time she and Gary’s wife at the time, Cherrie, became very close. When Heather was in a home of her own, Cherrie graciously offered to co breed a litter with Ridgewyn Belvoir Paid In Full , Gary was gracious enough to part with some of Ch Ridgewyn Legacy’s semen, and thus establishing a beginning for her with Goosie.
As to the Samoyeds, Joee was a client of Gary’s. As Heather spent more and more time around the Sammy’s she became very fond of them. Joee and Heather began a friendship, and Joee was gracious enough to allow Heather to be a part of Precious Samoyeds.
When choosing a kennel name, Heather wanted something that would reflect upon her love for Lars, Ch Ridgewyn Legacy. So she chose laurel, for Lars means “crowned with laurel” and the wyn for the foundation from Ridgewyn.
